Open Water Scuba Diver

Course description and overview

Open Water Scuba Diver is an entry-level training course designed to give you the necessary skills to safely conduct open water dives. Some of the many skills you will be taught include buoyancy, proper weighting, marine conservation, equipment assembly, proper dive planning, and maintenance. The course covers all the basic knowledge about equipment, physiology and the marine environment while training students to perform basic skills underwater. This course is the key to start exploring scuba diving destinations around the globe or just in your backyard.

The course is taught in block format and takes seven once-a-week sessions. The academic portion of the course is done online, in self-study format, followed by a single review session in the classroom. The online course includes fifteen quizzes/chapter reviews and a final test, all of which will be taken into account when grading. Academic portion of the course is followed by skill-development sessions at the City of American Fork Fitness Center & Pool. Your grade will be determined by your instructor after the last confined water session. Open Water Scuba Diver certification is offered as an option. Successful completion of four open water sessions is required for the certification.
